We gathered together within the walls of the Munkácsy Mihály Hungarian House to jointly commemorate the 182nd anniversary of the birth of the world-renowned painter Munkácsy Mihály.

Our ceremonial remembrance began with a wreath-laying, during which we paid tribute to the memory of the artist. During the quiet ceremony, the Munkács Old Scout Troop stood in a guard of honor.

Following the wreath-laying, the main program of the evening commenced: a lecture entitled “…You do not belong to Munkács; Munkács belongs to you…”, delivered by Mária Szemák-Neubauer — teacher at the Munkácsi Szent István Líceum and the Munkácsi 3. sz. II Rákóczi Ferenc Középiskola, as well as a local history researcher — with the contribution of local historian Sándor Nagy.

Through the thoughts shared and the archival sources presented, we were able to gain deeper insight into the lesser-known chapters of the painter’s life and into the special bond that connected Munkácsy Mihály to his hometown.
