On June 4, a joint event organized by the Munkácsy Mihály Hungarian House and the Hungarian Association of Mukachevo took place.

Our program began with a lecture by architect and graphic artist Sándor Angyalossy titled “Will Even Our Grandchildren Not See It Anymore?”, during which we had the opportunity to learn about the history of the buildings of our city, Mukachevo, and gain valuable insights from the city’s former chief architect.

Before the lecture, Pál Popovics welcomed the attendees, after which he gave the floor to Reformed pastor Dániel Gulácsy, who asked for God’s blessing on our event.

Following the lecture, our guests were invited to a casual standing reception in the courtyard of the Hungarian House, where they were welcomed with the now traditional selection of pogácsa and sausages.

The most important moment of the evening, however, came at 20:26, when we lit the Flame of Our Unity together. The rising flame symbolized not only our national unity, but also the idea that no matter where we live in the world, our Hungarian identity and our community connect us. Around the fire, we sang the Hungarian national anthem together, followed by a joint recitation of the Lord’s Prayer.

It was moving to see so many people gathered on this special evening. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the event with their presence, their help, a plate of homemade pastries, or in any other way.

It is a special joy for us that this year again we could light the Flame of Our Unity together. Moments like these remind us that the strength of our community lies in solidarity, in preserving our traditions, and in taking responsibility for one another.
