Our guests were able to participate in Tivadar Lehoczky Day, commemorating the 110th anniversary of the death of the famous historian of Bereg County. During the event, we visited Lehoczky’s former house in Mukachevo, where Munkácsy Prize-winning artist Péter Matl spoke about the history of the house and the family.
Afterwards, at the St. Martin Roman Catholic Cathedral, we paid tribute at Lehoczky’s grave in the crypt, accompanied by a lecture from local historian Béla Popovics. The day concluded with a wreath-laying at the Munkácsy Mihály Hungarian House, followed by a lecture by historian Dr. György Csatáry titled “The Life and Work of Tivadar Lehoczky”.
Tivadar Lehoczky lived and worked in Mukachevo from 1855 until his death in 1915, creating a vast body of work. He initiated numerous local excavations and archaeological surveys, wrote eleven books, and published nearly three hundred articles. His most significant work is the three-volume Monograph of Bereg County, which remains a fundamental resource for research on the history of Bereg.
